65 Starfire help
Hello,
I need some advice. I have a 65 Olds starfire convertible, 425, 4 bbl, and I seem to be unable to get her to run right. Here's what's been done:
New radiator, new water pump, new valve cover gaskets, rebuilt carb, all oil and filter changes, including fuel, new points and condenser (all adjusted). The plugs are clean and correct, the wires are recent.
She won't run well when warm.
The engine bogs down and sometimes missfires for 40 seconds or so, like it's running on 6 - after 10 minutes or so - it'll stall and need rpm's to stay running. Also, is the cooling system sealed? I got it with just an overflow hose from the radiator, should it have a sealed container? It overheats as soon as it is stationary. I put the overflow into a temp. gallon of water, if it's supposed to be sealed would that help the overheating?
I thing there are 2 issues, but not sure. Numbers matching engine, looks to have been untouched since the 80's. 111K miles - when running it is strong.
any ideas for the issues would be appreciated.
Thanks
Harry
