I have a ''72 Cutlass Supreme with a 350 Rocket and 350
trans. I recently had the heads professionally rebuilt. When I reassembled the motor, I replaced the cam bearings and put in an Edelbrock Performer Plus camshaft, lifters and double roller timing set. I''ve got the motor running well at stock ignition timing and the carb tuned. The problem is that I have very little throttle response after about 2000 rpm. It takes off well from a dead stop, but once it''s rolling there''s no pedal. The trans shifts fine and motor runs smoothly. I am running out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
what size carburetor is on it? if you have a really big carburetor withdouble pumpers and secondaries and everything it could simply be dumping too much gas. Or if you havent replaced ya know fuel filter air filter plugs and wires, basic tune up parts do that and see what happens. |
It has a rebuilt Quadrajet, and I put all new plugs, wires, etc. on. I don''t think it''s a fuel issue because the motor isn''t bogging down when I hit the gas, nor is it backfiring. I think it has to do with the new cam and timing set, so maybe I need to advance the timing beyond stock. I''m trying to get through to edelbrock cust. service, but they always seem to be busy. Thanks for the help.

if its the timing you have to advance the timing 2 degrees every hundred horsepower beyond stock |
Maybe..... you put in a little hotter cam into an engine that is short on Compression to begin with ! DISHED PISTONS = 8-1 comp. any type of performance cam needs MORE comp, ( Like 9-1 or above)

take a look at BOTH the initial spark advance AND Mechanical advance (weights under the rotor)
