'93 88 VATS/PASSkeyII issues, surprise!

So, this car was originally from TX. I am in Maine. I was smitten by the body and chassis - no rust! The paint is gross, baked under the TX sun and then cheaply resprayed. Interior is fair. Tires new. 110k on odometer. Underneath is a peach and the 3.8 runs great now that I fixed the coil pack that I fried washing under the hood. She purrs and floats down the highway. However, the infamous "Security/VATS/PASSkey II" demon has reared its ugly head only 2 weeks into ownership. I have done my research on this and I am confident in the bypass fix it yourself trick(s). However...Any thoughts, cautions, tips or sage advice is welcome before I launch headlong into it...I knew a $1200 car would not be free of gremlins...I am sure the electrical system will be the undoing of this car...old and brittle...and I am no electrician...

Also, other electrical issues: Stereo - front passenger speaker only works?, Coolant Level light, needs sensor, replacement tips? Odometer/Tripmeter has stopped working?

Thanks! Scott

The security bypass is not that hard, you shouldn't have trouble if you can solder reasonably well. You may end up with a security light on the dash after the bypass (I'm not sure if the '93 had one or not). Check out the Alero section's first sticky post for a good article on how the security system works, and a link to a bypass procedure.
