I have an 1998 olds cutlass that over heated (belt).

Now I am loosing coolant through the overflow res.

is it the cap? or a blown head gasket.

I do not have water in the oil or vise versa.

no steam in the exaust.

Engine runs great. starts with no problem.

next is a compression test and new cap.

any suggestions?

DO NEED TO ANSWER WHICH ENGINE / A RADIATOR CAP IS EASILY

REPLACEDAND AN INEXPENSIVE TRY

IF YOU DO REPLACE CAP AND COOLANT IS STILL PUSHING BY IT IS

A STRONG INDICATOR OF CYLINDER HEAD PROBLEM

IS VEHICLE STILL OVERHEATING

This sounds to me like your AC compressor or AC clutch is draging, this will cause the belt to heat up and also your engine. Remove the belt and tryand ture the AC pully by hand>
