Problem with 1998 Olds Cutlass-My driver's side window goes down but not up. I had a auto body place get the window back up two months ago. My son forgot and lowered the window 3" yesterday. I can't afford to have it fixed now and cold gets in even with plastic on it. Someone told me on you can pop off the control panel on the door and jump the wires so at least it goes up.
The Haynes manual doesn't have a picture or explanation.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you just grab it and pull it up? If so, you can then wedge something between the glass and the door to hold it there.

Thanks for answering, but my son tried that and it wouldn't budge.

I would try to get the inner door panel off and see what's going on in there. Usually the panel is held on with plastic clips that just push into holes in the metal door frame, so it can be pried off with a large screwdriver. sometimes there are screws also, especially around the handle area.

I would suggest that you post your problem in the Olds Cutlass section of this forum, as I am really not a Cutlass guy (I had a 95 Cutlass, but now I have an Alero). They will be able to help you more, I hope.

Sometimes, your local library will have a manual for your car that is better than the Haynes one.

Sorry I can't help you more, good luck!

when you try to go up can you hear the motor trying to run? is it slow to go up or don't run at all. If it trys to go up its a faulty motor. if it don't do anything going up even after smacking the door panel it probably the switch. the switches are whats called double throw, double pole, they operate in both directions, just changing the polarity. good luck.

if you try to open the sidings you can see a rubber that is full of dirt that is the reason why it doesn''t go up.
try cleaning it and it will do the work.
