Greets all. I would have introduced myself formally but I have a question that no one seems able to answer without wanting to keep my car for a week to tear apart my dash.

I have a 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva SL. It's had more than its share of problems, and recently (October) had the engine replaced due to flooding from Hurricane Wilma.

Problem is that the gauges on my dashboard are constantly jumping around and twitching like they're on crack - best way I can put it.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing it? Faulty wiring? Faulty alternator? I'm actually getting ready to replace my alternator tomorrow because of other problems that have been going on with the vehicle (battery not charging, battery light on, typical alternator garbage).

Any thoughts on the gauges issue would be greatly appreciated.

regards,

heather.

If it's not the alternator, it'ssounds likecorroded connections. It'll probably take a week to pull all the electrical connectors apart and clean them.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Nope, wasn't the alternator! It needed to be changed anyway, it failed testing miserably. Looks like I just have to deal with my crackhead dash until I find someone willing to play with it for a couple days.
