Gas gauge not working???

Gas gauge is reading a decent amount above the full line. I have 80 miles on the tank and hasn't moved. What is most likely the issue? I have noticed the gauge never moves from that position with the key on or off? Thanks all.

It could be a short in the wiring, the gauge died, or the sender in the tank is dust. There is no way to know until you chase the wiring to find the problem.

I own a 2000 silhouette. Sometimes in 2010 the fuel gage stopped working. Needle mainly stayed in the low position. sometimes it went up and down, with downhills and uphills. Lived with it until I ran out of gas once in 2011. Had it repaired. In September 2013, it broke again. My mechanic says that Oldsmobile is famous for this problem (My original one was good for 10 yrs though). He also said that since I have driven it very little in the past year that is a cause as well for the problem. I read on another website that the gasoline gunk is jamming up the floater. This time, the fuel gage is showing full all the time, except for a short instance when the ignition is turned.
