Chassis Service Manuals have a VIN decoder and the body plate decoder in the first section. Wild About Cars has Olds chassis service manuals available for download from 1964-72 and we will be uploading 1973-1977 through the Summer.

need to figure out what motor i got

all i know about it is its a big block,,,,the code by the oil tube is 7582 GM 57L D and there is a A5 on the front of the intake so someone please help me out.....just message me or reply to this

jrzybob442 05-29-2011 08:29 AM

You apparently have a Motor Home block from 1976 or later. This is not a desireable block - look to see if it has a provision for a clutch fork ball (near the starter position on the driver's side). Some of these blocks even have "windowed" mains as they were cast by Pontiac Division. I think this is one of those blocks because of the "GM" in the casting number.

Is the "D" a large Letter or is it the same size as the numbers? A Picture is worth a thousand words.

As I said before - there is a whole section - with pictures at Wild About Cars. Here is the link, but you do have to register (just like registering here) If you are an Olds guy, make sure you select "Oldsmobile" as your brand.

70 98 12-12-2011 11:20 PM

Thanks but there's a 3 digit number on my 70 98 located at the back of the right headlight, I will Post a picture ASAP thanks... Plus does anyone have a car like my?????

jrzybob442 12-13-2011 05:21 AM

All of the key ID information is located on the body plate (over the brake booster) on the engine on a pad under the no. one sprk plug on th block, on the trans and on the rear. If you have your original protect-o-plate, (enclosed with the original owners manual) there is more info there ase well.

For 1970, this can be found at Wild About Cars at http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...=9930340732039.
