This motor and trans is in a 1930's street rod, and it sits alot(not driven often). The motor tends to run hot, and I have seen steam rise out of the dipstick when checking the fluid on one occasion. The car may not be driven for months at attime, and there is a good size puddle of tranny fluid under the trans. I would appreciate any help. thanks grant |
where does the leak come from? Front / rear top / bottom?

Usually when a trans leaks only after the car sits idle for a few
weeks it is caused by the torque converter draining back into the pan. (Usually the torque converter holds 1 to 3 qts of fluid depending on trans type) This causes a "OVERFILL" condition and the extra fluid finds its way out of the weakest seal in the trans. In the case of my 66 Lemans with a 2004R it is the rear main. If the trans works well other than this problem, I would suggest living with it, you have a couple of options. 1 - start the car weekly and let it run untill all the fluids come up to temp. 2- drain 1 or 2 qts of fluid out of the trans when it is going to sit for long periods (I do this every winter on the Lemans) Other than that it will require a rebiuld of the trans. Just my experiance. Jeff R |
