Hi! I stripped two head bolt holes on my Chevy 350. To repair the two holes I need to get two of the short head bolts from an Olds 350 and possibly a 455, but they have to be the 1/2 inch bolts. I know that the bolts were used on 77 to 80 engines and I saw one place where it said they come on 77 to present Olds engines.

Is there someone who can help me get these bolts because I don''t want to buy a full set.

Thanks.

Check the ARP website. http://www.arp-bolts.com/index.html

Or call them, 805-339-2200. I''m sure they will sell single bolts but I''m not sure.

There you go!

Rustyballs, I checked and ARP won''t sell individual head bolts. They only sell sets.

Charlesm, is there some way you can check to see if they are 1/2" threads? Also, can you tell me what size socket fits the bolt head and how long the short bolts, the ones closest to the exhaust manifolds, are? I ask this because in doing a Google search yesterday I read a post in a forum about a stripped head bolt hole in a Chevy 350 motor and someone said that theOldsmobile 350, from 1977 and up, has 1/2" head bolts. It seems somewhere else they said the 455 does too, but I''m not sure about that. That''s why I''m asking for the info in the beginning of this paragraph.

If they will work I''ll work out something with you on payment.

Thanks so much.

Well that sucks. Hopefully you can work something out with Charlesm.

I will check the bolts saturday morning and let you know.... to be sure your looking for short 1/2 head bolts...what is the length of the bolt you need

hooperdoski 01-30-2009 11:05 AM

Charlesm, the bolts that are being replaced are 1 5/8" longso that would be the minimum lenght. Ideally, I could probably go up to 2 1/4", but if necessary I could take a longer bolt and shorten it.

Also, it is important that the boltshave a 1/2" - 13 thread.

Thanks so much for getting back to me on this andfor your willingness to help. It''s appreciated.<BR itxtvisited="1">

the shortest head bolts are 3 1/4 with 13 threads and a 11/16 bolt head i have 4 of them

hooperdoski 02-03-2009 12:38 PM

Charles, I hate to say it, but they''re not going to work because of the head size. The 11/16" head size won''t allow for a socket to fit over it. Bummer!

Anyhow, I do have the bolt holes tapped out to a 1/2" - 13 thread. That went exceptionally well. Whereas I can get 12 point flange bolts that will work (Plan C), I am going to try tofind some hex flange bolts (Plan B)as they might match the head size of the stock bolts.

I want to thank you for taking the time you have on trying to help me. If you email me your addess to budhodorowski@yahoo.com I will buy you a six-pack or whatever.

Thanks so much ...... Bud
