Wheel bearing/hub assembly removal HELP ASAP!
 

I am replacing the wheel bearing/ hub assembly on my 94 Delta 88. I Got the hub off and need to pound the bearings out. Do I have to remove the balljoint nut and drop the lower control arm or what. Don't see how I can get the axle out of the way once I push the bearing through? I'm stuck at the moment so I need to know what to do next. I dont wanna take balljoint down if I don't have to. Still don't see if that will let anything else move so I can get the axle out of the way enough.

Well I got it figured out and done. Took it for a test drive and looks like I wasted $100 and alot of my time. It is still making clunking noises going down the road and the tire/wheel still has significant play in it side to side. I didn't think it was the cv joint cuz it doesn't really seem to do it when you turn in to say a parking space and such. If I have to do the axle can I take the wheel bearing/hub assembly off without harming it or leave it in place at all? Thx. :mad:

A bad CV won't cause the wheel to move. That is caused by either bad bearings (which you replaced) or ball joints. You could also have a bad strut mount up top. That is where I'd look next. It the top of the strut is loose it will make all sorts of noise.

I went out jacked it up and shook the wheel back and forth. Nothing at the upper strut mount is moving. The wheel is moving side to side pretty good.

Next would be the control arm. Is there a strut rod on that car? (from the control arm to the frame)

If the wheel moves side to side its probably a inner or outer tie rod. If the wheel moves up and down its a ball joint. When you shake the wheel side to side look at the caliper, does it move in sync with the wheel? If it moves with the wheel check the tie rods, if it doesn't move with the wheel its the bearing. Because the the caliper is bolted to the steering knuckle it wont move around if the bearing is bad, but if the tie rod is bad everything that is bolted to the knuckle will move. Did you replace one bearing or both sides? Does it make the noise when driving straight or when your turning?

Check all the bushings in the controll arm too

Rustyballs is right on target. Sounds like tie rod ends and Rustyball_69 spray some wd-40 on them balls and they won't rust so bad.

Well the noise turned out to be on the driver's side and it was a stabilizer of some sort. Looks like it bolts through bottom of lower control arm. I was out of town and wife took it somewhere and they fixed it. Still have to work on the side to side movement on passenger side. I will check what you guys told me though. Much appreciated. Thx.
