I have a 99 Intrigue with a 3.5L. Sometimes it overheats but if I rev the engine it will cool off to normal temp. I have flushed the coolant, changed the thermostat and a changed the water pump. I heard the thermostat housing should be replaced with a newer type that has better flow. I don't think that would be the problem since it worked fine the past 8 years. Can anyone help?

THE 99 INTRIGUE THAT I OWNED FOR JUST A SHORT WHILE WAS A GREAT CAR. I WENT BEHIND THE RADIATOR AND USED A AIR HOSE TO BLOW THE SAND OUT OF THE COILS . THE RADIATOR DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH AIR FL0W TO PROPERLY COOL THE ENGINE. ALSO CHECK THE FANS TO BE SURE THEY ARE COMING ON . HOW HIGH DOES THE TEMPERATURE REACH? YOUR OWNERS MANUAL MAY HELP DETERMINE WHEN THE FANS ARE SUPPOSE TO COME ON .

if the thermostadt has never been changed since 99 then i certainly would. i also remembered that i did need to bleed the system after changing a hose. the bleeder valve in on top of the thermostadt as i recall. just turn it with the engine running and close it when you get a good flow of water out of it. this wont take but just a few seconds. if the hoses have never been changed it would certainly be a good idea. old hoses can close up and stop the flow of coolant.
