455 ? Oldsmobile marine engine
#1
I bought an older marine engine with the Number 396021 Fa on the top of the block in front. On the left side in front is the number L3E 5000T. Does any of this indicate the year or size of the engine? If so does any one Know where I can get a manual for this engine.
Thanks the new guy...........Jim

It's going into a 1972 28 foot houseboat cruiser called a Cargile Cutter no longer made. Are all the engines the same 72-76? I think they are not
Thanks for your response and any information would be greatly appreciated...........Jim

Yes, all Olds 455s are the same as far as any enginecan be over time. Compression may vary andcams may vary (of course your marine cam is totally different than a street cam), but an Olds455 is pretty much an Olds455.
the specs would help alot, spark gap, points gap and spark timing
Now here's where it gets a bit trickier. As I said, marine cams are a whole different animal I have absolutely no idea if thetune up specs would be the same for a street motor. May I suggest you try some boat forums...with a lean toward performance boats.
Good luck!

Jim,
I just remembered that there's an Olds Boat Motor section on www.realoldspower.com . Maybe they can help.
