Hey Iv got a 79 white gold hurst w-30 that I bought in 1999. Lucky for me the car still 100% factory original... just like it left the show room floor. Its my show car. Your best bet is to look in the junk yards for stuff off of any 78 to 80 cutlass. You probably have a better chance of having a million dollars falling out of the sky but its worth a shot. most of the inside trim and dash and door pannals from some cutlass up to the 87 442 will fit. But for the most part if you cant find it on a junkk yard car or from someone who has a 79 H/O and is saleing it or has parts there saleing your going to be out of luck. Its a 2 year body styl. Your nose clip (the grill) is only on the 79. The tail lights are on the 78 to i believe 81. the sport wheels are very very rare. The gold wheels were used only on the 79 H/O and the 80 442. The same wheel but painted silver was used on the 78 to 80 but was an option only. Iv only seen on car with the silver sport wheels on one 78 cutlass. The 350 engine and TH350 trans were used on the 79 delta 88. The factory pulled the engine/trans out of the Delta 88 and put them in the 79 H/Os. Unlike the W-30s of the late 60s and early 70s witch ment the car had the higest output big block Olds made with the out side air induction, in 79 it just ment that the car had the Olds L34 Rocket 350. Same thing for the 80 442 W-30 with the Olds Rocket 350. As far as restoring yours... I hate to say it but good luck funding the parts. Youll need it. I go to the junks yards every 2 or 3 monts just to see if I can get lucky and find a compleat 79 cutlass that I can rob a ton of stuff off of just so I can have it as a spair. But I have yet to find a car worth buying and putting it away just in case some idiot runs in to me. I live in Houston and know of over 30 junk yards around town, but only about 5 have late 70s to early 80s Olds. The smaller junky yards dont want any of the older cars. So its going to be hard to find stuff. Theres a company called Just Dashes. There on the internet. They can rebuild your dash, door pannels and the plastic trim pieces that are on the back side of both the front bucket seats. They can also rebuild the A piller plastic trim and the B pillar plastic trim.
My 79 H/0 is all 100% factory original so Im lucky that im not missing any thing from it. It was a clean car with no rust when I bought it and I drove it for about a year and a half befor making it a true show car. Now I drive it just to car shows and some times Ill get it out real early (around 4 am) on a saturday befor the traffic is out and take it for a good drive on a nice safe clean road. Since December of ''99 Iv put only 12,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the engine when I got it. It had a rod barring starting to make some noise so I decided to go through it and rebuild it. My dad worked for Olds back from ''67 to ''74 so we rebuilt the 350 back to early 70s specs. Got the horse power back up where it should have been. I know a guy that worked for Olds in 79 and he told me that the hurst was rated at 175hp. He told me that the delta 88 was rated at 175hp and when they put the motor/trans in the Hurst that they never redinoed it. He said that due to the hurst being lighter that the car was really making about 210 to 220hp but Olds keept the specs for the performance specs from the Delta 88 for the Hurst. So any thing you read about the performance on the 79 H/O is really the horse power specs for the Delta 88. Where was your car originaly sold? If it had 2.56 gears with posie traction then it was sold in California. If its got 2.73 gears with out posie traction then it was sold out side of california. My dad said when we were changing the diff. fluid and looking at the gears when we first got the car that it looked like it was a factory rear end witch would have been a chevy rear end and not an Olds rear end. Mine was first sold in Oklahoma City so its got the 2.73 gears. The 79 H/Os have the Olds 442 suspention because it was Olds heavy duity suspention at that time. If you want to you can check out my myspace site. Iv got about 15 pictures of my Hurst. www.myspace.com/rusty_bed_springs Good luck with your Hurst! You can also check out http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofhos.htm You can find out a lot more about all the Hursts that were built and if you go down to the bottom of the page you can click on links for other Olds stuff. Very helpful site. Take some time to really look through the site. A lot of grate stuff about almost anything you want to know about Oldsmobiles.Edited by: 79 Hurs/Olds
