FNG Check in (with a no start Q)
#1
Hello Olds fans! Let me start by saying I am a Harry Gant Fan! (last Olds on a NASCAR track). My wife has an Alero GL with the 3.4. Grwat little sedan but it has a no start gripe right now. It is equipped with an aftermarket remote start. I have very limited tools available to me right now as I''m away from home. My wrench turning is pretty good as I am a helo mech in the United States Marine Corps (doing more with less since 1775!) and also a Jeep owner, so I''m used to an open hood. I need help troubleshoooting this no start. It seems to be an ittermittent no start as I cannibalized a horn relay yesterday for the fuel pump relay and it fired right up! Thought it was fixed but this morning it was a no start again. No residual fuel pressure at the test port either. Batt is good, strong turn on the starter. Going to the parts store now to check out a timing light to look for spark ( i hate shocking myself with a screwdriver up against the head). I did a quick search on here but didn''t find a thread that helped. Gonna check the spark and come back and read a bit more. Any help would GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks and I hope to hear from you all soon.
P.S. I will post this up in the Alero area too.

Got it fixed! I disconnected the A/C comp clutch. The clutch and injectors run on the same circuit. If there is corrosion in the clutch it takes a larger amp draaw to engage and will sen the pcm into some fault mode. It doesn''t throw a hard code so no CES light. I''ve benn running it like this for a week now and no problems. Hope this helps the next person with this problem.

Hey,
I''m from West Virginia and the 94 Cierra I bought 2 months ago is my first Olds. It only had 41 K original miles and nothing had ever been placed in the trunk, so I couldn''t pass it up, especially since my son lock up the motor on the Jetta.
I''m glad this forum exist, but not sure how much I can contribute. I''ve got years of auto building and repair under my belt, and I''m restoring a 66 D100 now, but I know absolutely nothing about any of this modern stuff, and a 94 is modern for me.
Thanks again.

Well I don''t know about the Cierra at all. I do know the best way to learn is to work on it first hand. That and ask questions and read. I didn''t know jack about the 3400 till I bought my Alero. Even now I don''t know everything about it. I started working on engines when I was just a kid helping my brother rebuild a sb 350 in my moms truck.
I''m sure you will contribute as much as you can. Thanks for being here.
