middle console on a 2001 aurora
#1
I had a previous 2001 old aurora with 52000 and never had a problem with it. Unfortunatley it was in a rear end crash and the car was totalled. I bought another 2001 Olds Aurora, but this one has a different dash set up and middle console with the heated seats on it. What I was wondering is if the gear part too is suppose to light up? Seats and traction control light, but no gears light. Previous 2001 aurora did. Any thoughts?

I've heard of many people having this problem, it was also common with the 1st generation Auroras. I've got a '99 that has the same problem. The answer is: Yes, there is a light to indicate what gear you're in. The problem is that the bulbs are known to burn out. I once saw a step by step instruction sheet on how to replace the bulb, but I don't remember which forum I was looking at... It seems to me that you have to go in through the center console, and reach down under the shifter column, kinda feeling around in the dark. That was on a 1st gen Aurora though, maybe your's would be easier to get at.

[QUOTE=toughgal] Thanks so much for the reply on my Olds. Finally found another guy too that has an Olds 2001 and he said that the 2001's are suppose to have a lit console. He thought the same thing you did...rip out the dash and center console. Guess I have a project ahead of me...because I sure do miss that light, especially with all the night mountain driving I do.
