The only matching numbers 73 455 omega ever?
HI my name is Nathan and I am wondering if any one else is or knows any one that is doing what i am doing?
Ok heres whats up: My dad and I are in mid build of a matching numbers 73 omega... The fun thing is that this was never a factory option. As far as I know I am the only one that has a 73 omgea hatchback with camper option, 455 and th 400 (out of a 73 delta 88, as we know the omega was the only olds that was not given the 455) I have also retained the factory a/c and power steering and breaks.
Now getting that 455 shoved in a hole that is made for a 350 is no simple task. We have made custom risers and moved the motor mounts fwd to allow us to keep the a/c and power options also this will let you go HEI!
Now just moving that big boy up and fwd will not let you keep your a/c so we cut in inside of our a/c box pushed it in about 2in and fiber glassed it back that will let you put a valve cover on your pas. side. to get one on the drivers side you need to swap out your 11in booster for an 8in booster.
Now no one makes headers for a 455 omega. so now its time to get on ebay and buy a homemade header kit.( hint swap out your starter with a high tork mini starter this will make header work so much cleaner.)
If all your hard work pays off you will be able to drop your headers from the under side like i can with out undoing motor mounts, removing starter or removing the oil filter!
Now when you bolt your th400 back up you will need to take your drive line to a shop and have it extended. your rear end will either be a c (Chevy) model or an o (olds) model buy gears and posi unit accordingly.
Now get lucky enough to find a new in the box camper kit... (The day i got mine i about wet my self.)
I am going to do a full sub frame, then body work, paint ect...
I hope all the hard work is behind me at this point but im sure its not.
I have seen other people use the 455 but they get rid of the FUN STUFF like a/c and dont do the work to find all 73 parts.
I'm not going to post pix at this time but if anyone would like to see some or wants more info on how to do anything i have done to this point let me know.
Thanks,
Nathan
