Default Altenator Change Caused Bad Effects

On 1994 98 Regency, the altenator was putting out 12 - 13 volts but no amps. I changed it out and now it shows about 14 volts and 44 amps as output. After starting, now the air bag light flashes, the temp display flashes for a bit and then quits, the abs light comes on periodically (which it did before) and the engine will periodically die when coming to a stop. When it does die, the clock resets the time as if the battery had been disconnected. Engine starts right back up. My general question is, will these symptoms (except for ABS light) subside due to new voltage or amps into PCM or what? Is there a relationship with the brake pedal switches that would cause electrical disconnection? Thanks for any ideas.

Sounds like a bad ground. My guess would be at the battery. The cable end needs to be cleaned or tighten. Might that ground cable is bad and needs to be replaced.

Sounds reasonable. There was a tad of corrosion and I brush it, but maybe didn't get it all. thanks.

After changing alternator, the battery light now comes on intermittenly. The interior dash and courtesy lights flicker. Headlights brighten and dim back and forth. What the heck? Volts read good out of battery and alternator. Could it be a bad cell in the battery? I am going nuts here. No mechanic shop can find the problem.

Just because it makes voltage doesn't mean it puts out the amperage needed under load. My guess would be a bad diode in the rectifier. You need a new alternator.

Another possibility is a loose or corroded cable connection somewhere, but surely all the cables have been checked.
Another possibility is a bad voltage regulator.
