Default 98 Olds Regency Elite

So, my girlfriend put her Regency Elite in the ditch a couple days ago and it's been up to me to get it kinda patched back together - nothing pretty, but workable. In my search for things that went wrong I found a cable that's unplugged. It leads into the front part of the engine - here are some pictures. What is this cable for?

You and girlfriend have a real treasure on your hands. I thought they stopped making Oldsmobiles in 1996 so for you to have a 98 model means you must have a factory special that would be very collectable.
