1979 Cutlass Supreme engine swap....
Hello,
My 1979 Olds Cutlass Supreme with 82,000 original miles on it just had its engine die. It has a stock 260 V-8 with automatic trans in it. I have the opportunity to purchase a freshly rebuilt 307 engine and transmission from a Delta 88 at a good price.
My question is, will the 307 easily replace the 260 with little or no modifications needed to motor mounts, frame etc, since they are the same dimensions externally? Also could I use the transmission in the car now with a 307 or would I have to use the transmission already attached to the 307 engine. Will there be any issues around how they bolt together and any difference in length, etc.
I'm not looking to build a hot rod, but just want to keep my trusty old Cutlass chugging along for as long as I can.

From my understanding, the swap should be pretty straight forward. Are you leaning towards a 307 just because it's available? If I were you, and you were going to go through the hassle, I'd try to source a 350 to drop in there, but that's just me.
