How do you really know when a Cutlass has the 442 package.
I think my Cutlass Supreme is a little hodgepodged and when I found it 19 years ago, it had 442 grills on it, but no side or rear badging. It does have a 455 but the heads are from a 68-70 car ( C casting).
Only thing I could decode was it in fact came with a 455, it's a series 57 holiday coupe and the seats and console match the cowl tag....
How does one tell......

The only way to know for sure is to find a build sheet with the W29 option matching your VIN in the car somewhere. Other than that you're kinda SOL.
If the car came with a 455 there should be a U, V or X (for W30) for the 5th digit of the VIN.
Also you should check the machined pad under the #1 spark plug with stamped letters and numbers. If it's the original to the car it will read something like 32MXXXXXX. The X's will match the last 6 of the VIN.
