Hi everyone,

Im having a problem with my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. My courtesy
light that comes on when you open the door doesnt go off like it
should. I can turn it on through the switch on the dashboard and also
my putting the light switch to on but when I leave the switch on door,
it doesnt turn off. This is very frustrating. I thought
maybe the fuse is out and checked every fuse and they are fine.
Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thank you.

okay....trying to figure this one out here....

so your interior lights don't turn off when you shut the door? Is that what we're getting at here?

Also about the switch...you said you can turn them on by the switch, but not off? I was confused when I go to that part of your explanation, sorry!

See if you can clarify and i'll do my best to troubleshoot you.

The interior light doesnt turn off when i shut the door also I know in my car, the switch has three selections. I can set it to off, on or door. so what i meant was if set the switch to on, the light will come on. Also if i set the switch to door, the light would come on even when all four door is closed. the light never shuts off. when i shut my car off and close the door, the light never shuts off. so for now, I've been setting the light switch to off so the light wouldnt come on when i open the door but i really dont like this. Any ideas what might be wrong? also thank you for replying

sounds like it could be a bad connection in one of your doors. you're closing the door, however the light isn't getting the signal that the door is closed. Also lets not rule out the trunk here either. also could be the switch itself in the dome light. so first just try to clean the contacts on the door...second would be to replace the switch in the dome light

can you just replace the switch or do I need to replace the entire light unit?

without lying or guessing, i will just say i dont know. your best bet would be to just stop by a GM dealer and have them look it up in the computer. If possible, find a way to get the part number they are using and order from gmpartsdirect and save about 50% of what they want to charge you.
