2004 electrical problems?
#1
Ok, I am going nuts. I will list the issues with my car. It is pretty much all on the left side of the car. It started with the drivers side window only working when it wanted to, now doesn''t at all. Left side break light doesn''t work, air conditioner only works on the high fan, interior hood light doesn''t work, locks go on and off randomly as I am driving and last but not least the blinkers work most of the time, but go out randomly also. Is there any ideas as to what is wrong? The car has 96,000 miles on it and so far has given me no problems but these have been happening for a couple of months now and I cannot afford to get them fixed? I am hoping someone will say it is an electrical short and tell me how to fix it myself. Thank you in advance

Turn signals: Change the hazard light switch, which costs about $70 or less. You can do it yourself. This problem could also be the multifunction switch (the stalk on the steering column). If so, it becomes much more expensive and takes longer to fix.
Brake light: Check the bulb by swapping with the other side. Two bulbs at Autozone are less than $5. Change it yourself in 5 minutes. Pull away the carpet in the trunk to get to the bulbs.
Fan speed: Change the blower motor resistor. Not very expensive, but takes about an hour, I think.
Window: Remove the door panel and check the connector. It sounds likeit may be loose. Pulling the panel should take you 15 minutes or less. If you have power to the motor, changing the regulator (the motor, cables, and metal tracks the window rides on) takes about an hour. A new one costs less than $150.

Window Issue...On my 2004 Alero, I noticed that when the windows are slightly down, rain will drop right onto the window control panel. This will cause early failure of the switches. My passenger side was intermittent, but I worked them up and down many times and have been working since.

It sure sounds like an intermittent, corrodedconnection rather than a short. Check your auxillary wiring especially the wiring coming right off the + terminal of the battery. You will see the large, fat wire that feeds the starter. Then there is usually also a smaller wire(s) that feed the fuse box. One of those smaller wires can develop a corroded connection and cause the symptoms you are describing.
