Default Alero Rack and Pinion replacement

Alright, I apologize for the vagueness of this post, but I have a buddy who has an Alero and he says this needs to be placed on it. I'm fairly mechanically inclined (I've been working on and lifting Jeeps for 4+ years now). I figure this is probably a job I can tackle for him as he told me he was told it'd be $800 to fix! I found this "guide" if you could even call it that: http://www.ehow.com/how_4521384_inst...ldsmobile.html . I was wondering if anyone here had any more information on the subject, a better write up, or even some pointers.

I'd love to do this for my buddy and save him money and I'm confident I have the ability to do it from my JEEP back ground if I could find out what I NEED to do.

Thanks a ton!

Well I can tell you you will need 6 jack stands and 2 jacks. I have never done this, so far, but I have seen it done kinda. When upgrading the front sway bar you do the same process. It says how to do do this in my Haynes Manual, you could buy one or if you would like I can scan the sections you need and email them to you.

Sounds as enjoyable as swapping axles on a Jeep... haha.

My email is kyle.dersch@utoledo.edu.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure if this will help or not, wish I would have remembered this before I cut two pages out of my manual, http://www.powerlibrary.net/Remote/Remote.asp?ID=Monroe. Barcode #: 02378001078755
Go to the Auto Repair section, pick whatever year your friends car is, go to Olds, Alero, whatever engine size he has, repair procedures, steering and suspension, steering, and power rack and pinion steering gear.

Also if that doesn't help you might want to go sign up on www.grandamgt.com A lot of the folks over there have done the front sway bar install and could probably get you some pics.
