So here''s what''s happening ... I''ve measured the opening in the trunk of my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero ... approx. 16.5" (with the grey cover on covering the bottom of the trunk) ...
It''s about the same if I drop the seats ...

The reason I''ve come up with that size is I have a speaker box that measures 16.5" ... it JUST slides in through the back and if forced, will slide through the inside of the car (drop the seats) however the molding is in the way ...

So, where could I get some more room? I''m looking for 1 more inch.
Anyone take the bottom cover off (picture where the hinge is for the trunk latch, on the body of the car ... all that covering).
Or how about inside the trunk, close to the seats, that molding that''s wrapped around there ... would that help?

Looking for some ideas!

Sounds like you should chop an inch off the box. Even If you pulled the back seats out, and brackets you wont get an inch more room to get the box in the trunk.

Well like I was mentioning in the original post,
The space is there, it''s just the make-up of the car doesn''t exactly allow it ...

(This is the 2-Door Model) ...
Drop the back seats, there''s a plastic molding (can be seen from the inside of the trunk) that''s rounded and starts from the side of the trunk, travels on top and back to the other side ... that''s essentially "blocking" any way for me to push a box of that height through the back inside the trunk ...

From the trunk side, opening up the trunk,
There''s just the plastic down below that''s really in the way and doesn''t have any "give" like the rubber near the top of the trunk ...
Either way, I just thought I''d ask, even though I''m pretty sure I already know the answer to this problem.
Seems like 16.5" is the biggest.

But, I thought I''d ask, since I''m sure people have tried to put large things in their Alero trunks in the past ...

Well if you have the back seats down, the plastic trim around the top does come off. There are three or four push tabs that hold it on. You can pull them out and take the trim off. Hell you could pull the back seats out and all the trim around the opening to see if it will go in that way.

I thought you were saying the box was wider than the inside of the trunk. I have had a pressure washer in my trunk. I had to put it in through the back seat. Talk about a bitch.

Great, that''s the type of feedback I was looking for ... I had no idea that the back plastic would come off, I''ll have to look into that.

Also, after looking at the trunk opening a little closer, that plastic (on the body of the car) seems to unscrew ... I might give that a try, just to see what''s underneath (how much space) ...

I have no idea why the plastic inside the trunk is there in the first place ... doesn''t seem to "fit" the make-up of the trunk.

Anywho, thanks for the feedback thus far, I''m going to look into that late this week.

Good luck, hope you get enough room to get the box in.

So I took the back plastic off today to find maybe .5" ... nothing significant. Now I can see the metal and the make-up of the car ...
And I don''t think taking THAT off would be an easy job ...

As for the plastic inside the trunk, I can see how it moves but I didn''t take it off because I don''t see any extra height there either ...
That opening is only about 16 inches in height, which is why my current box of 16.5" can''t slide through ...

Back to the trunk opening, there isn''t any give at the bottom, isn''t much give at the top ... all I can think of now is to maybe get a piece of wood, 17.5" in height and try to slide it through ... measuring tape doesn''t really give me the confident "know it all" that I''m looking for.
Or otherwise, 16.5" it is!

Alright I went out to the car to take a look. I pulled the plastic trim off, the one that goes over the stikers for the back seats. I measured from the top to the bottom of the trunk. I got just a hair over 16.5 inches.

What is the lenght of the box? I measured across the truck also, just were its I had 16.5 inches though. From the center of the trunk there is a foot on each side that is 16.5 inches from the bottom of the trunk. As soon as the the metal starts to curve, pic below, it is no longer 16.5 inches.

You can also pull the bottom of the back seat out so the folding part of the seat will fold a bit further to maybe get you some more room.

My car is the sedan but the back seat and the trunk should be the same.

17.5" Height
17" Deep
32" Width

I appreciate you taking a look for yourself! That was neat since I wasn''t brave enough to take mine off ...
