Default Dead Alero

Ok, here is the mystery! I left work today car started fine, (always starts fine) no problems. 10 minutes into my driving home on the highway doing about 40mph , the car stalls and the engine quits???? I pull over, cant get it started. It turns over, i have power in the battery, but it wont catch.

I thought it may be a passlock problem, but would that happen while you are driving? i dont think so! when i leave the key in the "On" position. The oil pressure, battery and engine light are all on. while i am trying to start the car and the key is cranked, just the engine light is on.

Tow truck driver came said it sounds like your fuel pump, so he checked the fuel pump relay and fuse said he felt it click, so he said your fuel pump is probably fine. we checked all the belts, they were good too! Any Ideas??

That sounds like a passlock issue. I have heard a few people say they had been driving down the freeway and the car stalls because of passlock.

Tried everything with the passlock issue, nothing worked ,had to take it in and it was the fuel pump. Also told me they had to replace the fuel pump relay and a new fuel filter. Apparently the fuel pump is inside the gas tank so they have to drop the tank. Parts and labour $920.00 Canadian. not too happy right now!

I don't know what $920 Canadian is in US $ but DAMN. Thats crazy. Thats like getting robbed man.

I would suggest that you change your fuel filter everytime you change your oil. When that filter gets dirty your fuel pump has to work that much harder to push the fuel. For $10 a filter it sure couldn't hurt.

Where did you get the work done? Sounds like a stealership.

Default Haynes manual

What is the best online place to purchase a repair manual for my Alero? I have looked everywhere here in Ontario, Canada and no one has any for sale here!

Ebay man. If your gonna spend the money on a manual you should get trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQhashZitem320344277564Q QitemZ320344277564QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiteratu re. Those are the manuals that the dealerships use. There is so much more info in those than any Hanyes manual.

Sorry about that, I don't know what happen. Just go to ebay and type in 1999 Oldsmobile Alero / Pontiac Grand Am Service Manual, for some reason it wont let me put a link up.
