The Infamous Rust Spots On Our Aleros ...
So I took a few pictures of the rust MY CAR has already ... every time I see an Alero on the street, there's a few spots I check just to see HOW BAD their rust situation has got.
And believe it or not, these 2 spots always come up, time and time again.
#1 Rear-Bottom of the car, just before the tire. ALL ALEROS suffer from this rust hot spot!
and
#2 The front hood - I find this is a hot spot for rust as well
Care to share some more?!?!?
And finally, I post these in hopes that someone has some remedies for their own Alero and will happily pass along to me, as I'm really beginning to worry about the rust taking over.

I have the same spots as you except for the front hood, but i have it bad around my gas cap! if a professional paint job is out of the question. Then some Bondo, elbow grease , can of primer, can of paint, can of clear coat, will probably settle it down for a little.

my girlfriends alero has 2 small holes with large rust patches around the rear part of the bottom of the doors before the tire. (2 door) the paint just flaked off and there was holes, water and crap getting in through the wheel wells made it rust from inside. now theres water coming in the back seat from the trunk and the trunk is filling up also, these cars are terrible if you dont watch them like a hawk its also white which tends to show more rust. Back spoiler light has the water running rust pattern around it. her hood has had a bra on it siince she bought it so the hoods fine.

Its more of a manufacture problem then the car itself. GM does everything they can for as cheap as they can. If they can get away with using a product that will last just long enough that the warranty runs out, damn right they will go that way. They don't give a **** what happens have the warranty is up. Then they make millions off of people that spend way to much money on extended warrantys. I still wonder to this day how a car company, any car company car make **** so cheap and sell it for so much still be so broke. Oh wait, its called greed.

And shortsightedness. Now it is all coming home to roost for GM, however.

I've been lucky enough to find the factory GM blue that maches my Alero and I've spray painted over most of the rust ...
However, I've been meaning to fix it once and for all, especially with the harsh winter only a few months away ...
Hopefully good news to come ...

My 99 had rust bubble up right behind each door on the lower 3rd like your 2nd picture shows. I took it tot he body shop and they cut that piece out and replaced it. If I remember I'll upload the parts they took out so everyone can see how rusted out there where.
The car is great now except for the fact that when they fixed this they must have cut through the wires that run to the rear speakers since they didn't work after that. Of course my wife didn't notice this till months after it happened.
