Default Need help with an EVAP code

A friend of mine says he is getting a check engine light with a code refering to the EVAP canister. I cant remember the code but have asked him if he can remember or go get the code read again. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the EVAP canister. How do I check that? Do I need to drop the gas tank to either check or replace the canister. The car is a 2003 Alero GL. As soon as I get the code I will repost.

Thanks Guys.

Either the purge solenoid has failed or canister is plugged or leaking.

I'm not sure where the solenoid is but the canister is under the car in the back, right in front of the spare tire well. The fuel filter is right in front of it.
