I haven't looked into at all to make sure there's the right number of lugnuts or same diameter or anything but I'm not a "car guy" so to speak at all so excuse the rookie question.

Any reason, aside from that it would look really stupid, it wouldn't work for me to take the rims from my brother's 98 cavalier and put them on my 99 alero GLS? (one rim bent on my own stupidity and was replaced after-market, the latest one i have no fricken idea what happened to it and dont think its worth my 400 bucks when i could just replace all 4 for free)

Sorry, I don't think they will fit.

That says the Cavalier has a 5X100 bolt pattern, and the Alero has a 5X115 pattern. The five means 5 lugs, and the 100 is the spacing in millimeters between two non-adjactent lugs. I would try to get a rim from a junkyard. A 94 or newer Aurora rim will also fit.

to iflylow; great answer. fitting the wrong wheel on a car can lead to disastrous consequences. fuel mileage , trans problems, driveablity , comfort.
