Question RPM too high on a cold start

I have a 2001 Alero, this is a 2.4 engine. In the past few months it Revs up to 2000 or 2500 RPMs on a cold start. Then it goes down to about 1000 or 900 when it idles. I have used 2 tank fulls of injector cleaner on it and cleaned the throttle bottle. This made it run smoother. I then replaced the Idle air control valve and it did idle close to normal but still revs up to 2000 on a cold start.

The mechanics at the shop I went to cannot figure out what is wrong. It seems the computer controls the idle and there is no other adjustment for it. I tried another idle air control valve but to no avail as it now idles about 900 and revs up to 2500 on a cold start.

If you have an idea what might be wrong or even a guess at it please feel free to let me know. My car only has 108k on it and looks great otherwise no rust or dents, I'd love to keep it going.

Thanks,

Steve in Ocala
