Okay, my tranny went bad in my 1999Alero, went to the salvage yard and picked up another one from a 1999 Malibu. Same tranny, but when it came time to slide the drive axles into the new tranny they won't fit. I went to the auto parts store and had them look up the part numbers for the Alero and Malibu, same part # for the cars? Took a micrometer and measured the CV joints, drive axle is 46mm and the tranny is 36mm, am I missing something? Any help would be appricated!!!

Thanks,

If you are measuring the splines with a micrometer and get 46 on the axle. This 46mm is to the top of the splines. How did you measure the tranny? Wouldn't the 'socket' that the splined shaft fits into be to the bottom or valley between the spines thereby producing a smaller size?
