2002 Aurora Console Question
Greetings forum members from the "newbie".
I have owned an Oldsmobile since 1977 when I bought my 1970 442 clone car while I was in high school (it's still with me).
Yesterday I surprised my girlfriend with her first car, a 2002 Olds Aurora, 3.5L. The car just came into a local dealer on trade, and he just wanted it to disappear, so I got it for what he gave in trade. It needed very minor work so far, a transmission flush, air and cabin filters were disgusting, throttle body and MAF needed cleaning (all basic maintenance). It was blowing two codes, PO442 and PO410. Once was the gas cap, and the other a cracked hose to the air bypass diaghram. All codes are now clear.
The only annoying problem left is that the cup holder will no longer stay latched and is always folded over the seat heater controls and is just generally annoying. Does anybody know how to remove the cup holder so that I can repair or replace it without having to take the whole top end of the console apart?

OK, the car has started blowing the PO 410 code again indication a problem in the secondary air injection circuit. Does anybody have more information regarding this code on an Aurora? One of the members suggested that his code went away after the plugs were changed, but no such luck for me. Another has suggested that it is a known faulty sensor, if so, which sensor? Without a shop manual of any type this is a bit of a hit and miss issue.
Thanks.

Secondary Air Injection Circuit.
OK guys, don't everyone jump in at once with an answer.
After some searching I have the solution, but it is very $$$$$$.
The PO 410 is indicating a problem in the secondary injection system. That means one of four components. The electric air pump, the control solenoid or one of the two Secondary injection system shut off valves.
In this case my solenoid is not allowing manifold vacuum to go to the diaghprams on the shut off valves. The solenoid is relatively cheap, at only 50 bucks. Next I checked the shut off valve diaghprams. Both are leaking and losing vacuum pressure. Since GM does not sell a re-build kit I would have to purchase the whole valve which they want an outrageous $350.00 each!! No wonder these clowns are going bankrupt if it costs them that much to make what is essentially an EGR valve for all intents.
Does anybody know of a cheap source for these valves??
Cheers

Rock auto has the shut off valves for $150.00 (which is better than GM) and one of my local wreckers has an 02 Intrigue with a good motor in it. I'll see if I can get him to just part out the valves. It's kind of funny, I can get the COMPLETE motor from the wrecker for what GM wanted just for the two valves.... how's that for a joke!
