does anyone have any experience with aftermarket batteries? my mom''s original battery might be on its last leg. and the dealer is wanting to charge $178 for a new one, and would going back to a dealer battery be worth it, or would a parts house substitute be able to handle all the electronics on this car?

thanks in advance.

CONTACT YOUR LOCAL PARTS SUPPLIER AND BUY A BATTERY. MY THOUGHT IS THE GM BATTERY IS NO BETTER THAN A PARTS SUPPLIER S BATTERY. GM DOES NOT MANUFACTURER BATTERIES. THE BATTERY FOR MY AURORA IS AT LEAST 2 YEARS OLD WITH NO PROBLEM. THE BATTERY THAT I RECENTLY REPLACED IN MY GMC WAS KNOWN TO BE 3 YEARS OLD WITH NO PROBLEM. BOTH ARE STILL VERY STRONG . WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE DOLLAR DIFFERENCE I SIMPLY WONT CONSIDER BUYING A BATTERY FROM GM.

I replaced my battery with an AC delco battery and its been going strong for the last four yrs. did not pay dealer price an wouldn''t. Not sure if your battery is in the back seat like my 2001, but if so there is a type of breathing tube that connects to the battery to prevent some type of build up make sure your new battery is compatible..
