1988 Cutlass Ciera 2.8L dies intermittant
#1
Shortly after I replaced the steering rack my dad's car has begun to intermittantly die out.
For instance he or I could just be crusing down a street and all of the
sudden the engine dies out. No lights turn on and the gas pedal does
nothing. Usually the engine will cut in and out for a few second and
sometimes come back to life or completly die out to a point where the
oil and battery lights turn on.
Sometimes I could be sitting at a red light for a few minutes and the
car will idle fine however the moment I step on the gas to take off
when the light is green the car dies out like I described above.
The problem seems more prevelant when the car has been running for
twenty minutes or so. I removed the ignition module, cleaned it up and
applied new dielectric grease between the module and mounting plate
thinking it was overheating. However that didn't fix it.
The car doesn't stumble or hesitate. The car has normal power and shifts smoothly when the problem isn't occuring.
My dad thinks it is the fuel pump however the car has no problems at
all starting back up after it dies out. Also fuel pressure is where it
should be.
Anyone have any ideas? I can't think of anything I may have done to cause it when I installed the new steering rack.
I'd appreciate the help. I really don't want my dad to have to take it to a shop.
Thanks
