Good PM everyone......

I''m new to this forum so forgive my possibily many questions in the near furture.

I recently inherited an ''83 Cutlass from my in-laws. It''s the V6 with AT, AC, PS. I''m sure it has the weenie 200 tranny, its not the 200R.

Over the course of the next year or so my grand plan is to completely redo her. But first things first....the "heart" of the matter. I really want to swap out the engine/tranny for something much more "drivable".....ie.."FUN". I''m not very familar with Olds but am somewhat familar with Chevy products.

I do not want the swap to be a huge PIA but on the other hand I don''t want parts to be obsolete or too expensive to get. So, do you go with Chevy transplants or stay with Olds equipment?

Anyone who has experience with either kind of swap....I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Or if anyone can point me to another site where the info might be found would be great!!

Thanks in advance for all your responses

Tom

I am just starting the same. I want to stay with an Olds engine, but every time I start asking the $ hit 5,000. Heck, I only want to make about 350 to 400 hp with iron heads if possible. As for the actual swap I am told it is pretty easy. The G-Body frame is drill for all GM products. Also OLdspower.com looks promising.Edited by: 82ctls

It all depends on what you want to do, exactly. Do you want to make a huge powerplant to wipe the biggest turboed ricer off the road. Or do you just want to have a little boost of power. And do you want to use a automatic or stick, if this is gonna go fast then you might wanna concider a new rear end. But for something moderate, I suggest a sb Chevy(because of cost and part avalability), and those Borg Warners are pretty good. I used a muncie m-20. You might be able to stick to your origonal rear gears if you use a mild choice up front. Happy hunting.
