Default cruise control inoperative

I have recently acquired a 1988 FWD Cutlass Supreme, and the cruise is inoperative. What are the first areas that should be reviewed for failure? This car is for my son, so doing repairs as cheaply as possible is good.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't know how does the cruise control works in your car, but i would start with the electrical.
Starting at the fuse box, work your way through the wiring to see that nothig is disconnected, and checking in every connection junction and switch for current.
I dont know if your car's cruise control is equiped with an separate computor or if its connected to the engine menegment sistem, but if your car got one you should check its feed.
You will need another person to help you with some of the checks- for your attention.

Hope this helps,
Dima.

From what you describe the CC Lever (multi-function) may be at fault. These were kind of problematic back then. Ebay & Amazon all list a number of vendors carrying these.
