Default 1976 Olds Omega

Hi All,

I am now the proud owner of a

1976 Olds Omega - I picked it up yesterday.

The car has a 350 fitted and a manual shift auto box, it starts runs and stops.
However there are a few issues, the wiring was modified with a chainsaw, the headliner looks like a crime scene and the gearbox is sketchy at best.
All these I can fix but the issue I have is the rear axle is offset to one side by approx 1.5 inches - anybody seen this before?
Thanks
Steve

It appears that this rear end was taken from another car, possibly one with coil springs, and fitted to your car. The workmanship appears less than impressive so it doesn't surprise me that it's not properly centered. The brackets that are welded to the rear axle housing, that sit on top of the springs are not properly centered. They would both need to be cut off and moved to the side (1.5") to properly center them. You should also consider adding whatever brackets are needed on the rear axle to install the correct shock absorbers for your car.

I figured it out, when i got the car in the workshop it was higher by 3 1/2 inches on one side. I pulled the shocks off and dropped it back down only 1/4 inch difference now.

I have also fitted a locker diff now so it can accelerate properly.

Gearbox has now had the B&M shifter set up correctly - that now works as it should.

I have removed about 30 feet of extra/bad wiring and changed many switches, almost everything is working!
