I own a 1994 Oldmobile Eighty-Eight with a 3.8L.


I'm trying to figure out how to read the check engine light that's coming up. First I had to find out that it was OBD-I, that's what it says on the emissions sticker under the hood, and the connector is a 16-pin style. So I guess OBD-1 with OBD-2 connector?


Well, I looked up some stuff online, and it said easiest way to check codes is by using a jumper wire, and bridge Terminal A and B. Well the connector is numbered 1-16. So I assumed that it meant 1 and 2. Problem was that there was no wire in port 2. So I looked at another site and it said Number 4 and 15. Well, the ground (black)was 4 but there was no wire in port 15, so I tried port 16 (orange). I see a spark. Turn key on, wait a second, SES light just stays solid, and my radio now doesn't work. And the "ding-ding-ding" when you put the keys to on, now sounds like, "zzzp--zzzp-zzzp".


Any idea how I can get the code retrieved, also, is there a fuse for the radio? If so, where is it located, and what number is it?


I'm open to answer any questions about the car.

Just wanted to let you guys know, I brought it into a shop, and code was for EGR. I replaced it with one I took off my '01 Grand Prix, drove around the block, and no light. So far so good.


Radio fuse was blown, I found it under the dash to the left of the steering column.


Dings normal now and radio works again.
