Can anyone help me. I am trying to replace my original points distributor to an HEI. I ordered a Pertronix HEI distributor and it was too big for the engine compartment. So I just went with the Pertronix kit to change to electronic, but it is not HEI. Are there any HEI distributors that will fit this car w/o messing up the firewall and w/o it being so tall that it hits up against the bottom of the air cleaner?

We're using an HEI distributor out of an '84 Delta 88 I believe it was. The car in question is a '70 Cutlass S, I don't imagine the engine bay being that much different than your '72.

Also, we aren't running an air cleaner right now but when I had it on there there weren't any clearance issues.

What's the engine size?

 

I've never run into a clearance problem in my 1970 442 either. First with a stock distributor our of a 77 Delta 88, and then with an aftermarket.
