Default Can anyone help with this problem??

OK I have in infamous won't start problem that has plagued the earlier GM.

Mine: 99 Eight eight LS 63000 miles

Here is what I know:

Key turns in ignition everything electrical works except the starter.
starter is good
battery is good.
Security light FLASHES when I try to start it along with the other dash lights.

Told this to my local mechanic who said he has fixed this problem by wiring diodes/resistors(?) somewhere in the security system, which he did.
After doing this it still doesn't start. He is stumped so am I.

Do anyone have any idea what this problem is and how to fix it????

If no, can the local GM dealer troubleshoot the issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, really appreciated.

Most likely cause is a broken wire at the ignition cylinder fpr the PASSKEY system. The chip in your key is a resistor, there is a wire on either side of the cylinder and your key completes the circuit with the correct resistance the PCM wants to see to start the car. The way to test this is...there is a white two wire connector at the base of the steering column with two very thin orange wires in it, disconnect the connector, with an ohmmeter placed on the wires on the column side and no key in the cylinder, the circuit should be open. When you insert the key, the resistance should change, if it doesn't, you have a broken wire. The wires are part of a new cylinder. And yes a GM dealer will be able to diagnose this.

Well I finally got it fixed and back on the road. It was the security system. They wired a resistor somewhere in security system. So the security system is bypassed. I don't have to use a key with a pellet in anymore I can just get one cut from a regular GM blank. Total cost for troubleshoot and labor 175 dollars. Not too bad
