Unhappy Help please.. :)

I need some help with my car. It is a 1989 Olds Cutlass Cierra with a v-6 3.3L engine. My car was running fine until Wednesday. I noticed my car was low on gas and went to fill up. Immediately after filling up the car refused to start. It was turning over but would not start. I have since changed the fuel pump. The fuel pump is not powering up. I have checked it with a multimeter so i know it is not defective. What can cause this to happen? Also if anyone has pictures of the circuitry it would really help me. Thank you in advance.

What did you check with the meter? Is the fuel pump getting power?

If you replaced the fuel pump, then you need to check for power at the fuel pump connector. If you have power then you need to check for a good ground. If no power is presant, then next is to check the fuel pump fuse ( should be in the under dash fuse panel ) if the fuse is good, then check that the relay is working. This is a little difficult for the do it yourselfer without a wiring diagram, but a quick way to find out if the relay is working is to listen and feel for a 'click' in the relay when the ignition is switched on ( the fuse must be good though ). You can buy a mitchell or chilton manual for about 25 dollars and it will have a wiring diagram of the fuel pump circuit. That would help alot. IF all that is in order, then you will have to take the pump back out and check the connections to the actual fuel pump, Ive seen people leave these disconnected before. Hope i was able to help.
