I put a new alternator on my Silhouette Van and the van went about 35 miles and then quit charging again. I checked the alternator and it was good so I put it back on and it worked again for about 4 more short trips and then stopped charging again! What can I do to find out why it won't keep charging? The first alternator had a broken brush. I fixed the brush and put the alternator back on. The second time I just put on a new alternator and this is the third time that it has quit on me.

I would check for bad grounds! Are you checking for a working alt at the battery or at the post on back of alt?

 

How is it you are determining that the alt is not working at times? The guage in the car maybe!?
