Break assist

In my other post I mentioned that I just became an owner of the 98 Intrigue. There is one thing that definitely needs to be taken car of. My uncle stated that he ran across a plastic bag that wrapped around an axle and ripped out the break assist sensor. He said that the dealer quoted over $300 for replacing the sensor and he never ended up doing it. Doesn’t sound like the worse thing ever. I’m guessing that the part alone is not that expensive and was wandering how difficult it would be to replace one. Should I consider going the dealer route? I believe there are three lights on the dashboard indicating the problem.
