Intrigue Aftermarket Audio
Just this last week I bought a used 2000 Intrigue GLS with the standard audio system. It's the Sterling edition with 40k miles for about $7,500 and I'm really happy with it. I am thinking about upgrading the audio system, but Crutchfield only shows a few compatible receivers. Is Crutchfield correct about the compatibility? Also, is it possible to retain my steering wheel controls with some adapter? How well does a receiver integrate into the Intrigue's interior. If anyone could post what they have installed so I could check that against Crutchfield, that would be great. Thanks
im glad you posted this i had some of the same questions. i just bought a black 2000 GLS on friday. My cd player doesnt read all of my cd's and i know its a known issue with the oldsmobiles because my dad had an aurora. but i wanted to know if there was an adapter so you could steel use the sterring mounted audio controls.
I had this same problem.
I have a sony GTX 310 that is not flashy, and has the all the options you need, and it can be wired to your steering wheel controls. Crutchfield said it wouldn't fit, but CircuitCity made it work. My best advice would be to purchase whichever half din deck you wanted, and have it professionally installed. If it doesn't fit, then return it and try a different size. But Crutchfield has very little information about the Intrigue.
If your main concern is playing mixed cd's, I would look for something like this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...in.aspx?g=300& amp;i=113MP208&tp=5684

Also, if you are concerned with how it will look with the cars interior, you might want to consider a din & 1/2 sized stereo like these. They would be about the same size as the factory stereo, so they wouldn't leave any tacky pockets or gaps. Although I'm not sure about how compatible they are:

HI Folks;
I have an '01 Intruige with a pioneer deh-p4800 mp(hooked to the SW controls) along with Infinity component speakers, subsand amps.
If you use the PAC steering wheel adapter from crutchfield or others, the steering wheel controlls work just fine.
Metra makes 2 install kits for this car, A single DIN and a Doble DIN.
The main problem with most aftermarket head units in an Intruige is depth. The dash only has 6 3/8" between the adapter and the back of the cavity. HOWEVER, at the back of the radio cavity is a plactic brace for the rear of the stock radio. This brace can easily be snapped off by hand, leaving over 7" of depth. This is enough for even NAV systems.
There is also a slight problem with the slightly oval opening in the dash trim piece around the radio. Again, there is a fix. Using a heat gun and file this openig can be squared off to clear virtually any head unit's nose piece.
I am looking at changing my head unit to the new pioneer AVIC-D3 NAV system, since this will work with the pioneer Sirius tuner and 12 disc changer I already have.

By the way;
No one that I have seen makes an adapter to fit a DIN and a half head unit for this car. Although the DIN adapter has a slot for an equilizer that could be filed out to enlarge the hole to DIN + 1/2
Also, you can easily reach behind the radioto straighten wires (for added clearance) by taking a straight blade screwdriver to the botton of the center air vent and prying it out. ( found that out whenI needed to change the hazzard switch.)
A factory service manual will show you all the tricks that crutchfield doesn't know about. I have one and it was the best investment I have made for my baby.
