Default Pulling the engine in a 2000 3.5

I am about to pull the engine in my 2000 because of the ever popular overheating reason to replace the head gaskets. It looks as if pulling the whole thing and repairing it is just as difficult as doing an in frame. My true question is should I pull it from above or try and wrestle the whole sub frame out and work on it that way? It looks like I can actually pull it from the top easier if I can reach all the bolts to seperate the trans. How crazy am I? And no, I am not positive it is head gaskets but I have tried eveything else. Although I DID NOT buy the GM water pump and thermo housing. Tried to vacuum fill the coolant and it just does not remove the air, so I guess it is sucking it from the cylinder.

This seems to be the place with the most know how on the subject. Thanks in advance for your input.
