I'm new to the forum, and looking forward to learning all I can about
my new 1972 442 convertible. My dad and I just purchased the car this
past weekend. I'll post some pictures soon. Right now, the Red Rocket
needs some suspension work, she looks to have all original springs and
really old shocks as well as tired bushings, etc...



When I post the pictures I'm sure you will all agree that she sits a
little to low. I would appreciate any input or suggestions on where I
should start and where I should look for parts. My Dad wants to replace
everything suspension related under the car. He thinks that we shoud go
with a full heavy duty set up. What do you guys think?



Sorry for the long first post, but I'm really excited about my car and I can't wait to get her perfect.

Hey, welcome to the site. I'll be excited to see some pics of it. I'm not real sure about the suspension set up cause I dont have one, nor do I know much about the classics. again, post some pics when you can

 

I have a red '71 Cutlass convertible. A new set of shocks, stock height springs (I like MOOG), and bushings (stay away from poly...I've found they squeak a lot) should take care of you.

Thanks for the info. I tried to upload some pictures but they were too
big for the server. As sson as I resize them I will put a few up. We
have decided to replace all of the suspension with original parts from
Funsic. Next up is to locate a Tic Toc Tac and then get all of the
gauges reconditioned along with the AM/FM Stereo. It plays but we think
it would be a good idea to have it professionally reconditioned along
with the speakers.



Had my first experience this weekend when we noticed that the
alternator belt was on an angle. Turns out that the alternator and
power steering belts were on the wrong pulley. Going to make the change
this weekend.

PS: If you have a line on the Tic Toc Tac I'd appreciate the heads up.

Original Tic-Toc-Tacs are like hen's teeth.


I believe Year One has repops that are beautiful and MUCH more accurate.

Here are a few pictures. She heads for the shop this week for all new
suspension, shocks, springs,bushings, rear axle, brakse, the works.

What color is that? No, I'm not kidding...my car goes in for paint in a month and I'm still deciding on what "type" of red I want. And that's REEEEEEEEEEALLY red!

I'm not exactly sure the name of the color. When we bought the car they
called it Matador Red, but don't go by that. My Dad is trying to
contact the owner of the car when it was painted to get more details on
the restoration, I'll have him ask about the color and get any useful
info back to you.



Oh, and thanks to the Oldsmobile Club of Florida's membership director
my dad got a line on reproduction ralley clusters that include the Tic
Toc Tack. $550 bucks but they are gonna look sweet in the dash.

It's not '71 Matador Red...although it could be '70 Matador Red. The '71 color has some orange tint in it, which yours doesn't seem to have. I mean, that's REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY red!
