2001 silhouette longevity questions
Hi Folks....First time here and first post. Our mechanic, a very honest man, has suggested we sell our car, with 152K on it right now, by the time it gets 175K on it, probably by next spring. We bought it from original owner with 122K last year for 3500.00, a good deal. It has been generally reliable, with a couple of issues fixed. It does not use any oil and transmission does fine too. But the suspension is a lot softer than I like.
I took it to him last week for a checkup and suggestion that we upgrade to sportier suspension components. He advised against that request, saying he sees alot of these gm vans, and that they are pushing luck with 200K on them. We had hoped to have it last til at least 300K, but we are now thinking we need to sell it before something drastic happens to it's innards. lol.
Comments please from others' here about our dillemna.
PS. We may consider a Nissan Quest, since Toyota seems to be a major cost for a low mileage one. Thanks from Darrell.

I have a 99 that has 178K and runs great. No work done to engine or transmission other than intake gasket done at about 50K. Intake gasket is starting to leak so that has to get done. I had planned to part ways with the van a year or two ago but love the van. Very well made in my opinion. Going to keep it as long as it is feasible to keep putting repairs into it.
