Just joined up to ask a question so maybe i could help a buddy who is having some trouble.


He has a 99 Silouette v6 with 140k miles on it. his head gasket started leaking months ago, some bars leak was used and everything was fine for 6k mines, untill a few days ago it started acting up again.


most of my mechanical skills come from working on small 4 cyl 2.0 nissan sr20de engines. with small nissans its usually cheaper to just replace the engine with any kind of internal engine trouble. since the engines are a dime a dozen.


are the v6 engine out of silouettes used in any other vehicles and are they pretty easy to come by used in decent shape? i told my buddy if i could source an engine on his dime i would swap it for him in my garage on my free time. is this something i could handle alone in 2 weekends time? i have swapped 1 nissan engine b4 and have changed my own clutch and rebuilt cv axles and a few other somewhat complicated jobs.


anyone know of a good place to source engines from. what otehr cars ran the same v6 engine? any advice would be appreciated.
