How do I keep my lights on during driving?


I have a 88 Olds Tornado Trofeo. Yesterday morning all my lights wentout in the car includinghead lights dash lights, brake lightsetc. It was a bad experience but I luckily made it off the road in safety. This is a safety issue that might force me to sell this car. The lights came back on but driving in dark is a bad experience. Why are my light going off and sometime back on and how do I make repairs that would ensure that I have lights when driving. I do notice a clicking in my glove compartment when this happened. Again, how can I keep my lights on???
