Default TH 400 Swap

I have a 1970 442 with 455 and short shaft TH 400. Here's the "story". Six years ago I had the transmission re-built in town by a Mr. Transmission and they made an un-intentional error. When re-assembling the case they got a ball bearing from an old valve body stuck in the outlet cooler line between the case and the coupling. This acted like a check valve and sealed off the cooler line every time that the car was started. The transmission is still working now, but will slip if I get on it hard. I have a fresh re-built long shaft T400 sitting on the floor of my garage that was done with extra clutch packs and 2 stage valve body for strip use.

What are the implications of putting in the long shaft transmission and shortening the driveshaft by 5 1/2"? The one tailstock is 4" and the other is 9".

My only other option is to swap tail stocks and output shafts, but like many others I am out of work and don't have the $400.00 at the moment to get a tranny shop to do the job for me, and I am a novice at automatic transmissions (done a few TF 727 and a TH 350).

Has anybody else done this swap?
Are there any "issues" with running the long tail stock transmission in a Cutlass style body as opposed to the Dynamic 88?

You can do it, but why throw money at the drive shaft instead of the transmission? Swap the output shaft and tail housing. I think if you use the long shaft doesn't it move the trans mount back? If it does then you will have parking brake cable issues.
Just do it right the first time. Don't band aid it. Especially if you have the original trans in the car and you may want to put it back in one day. Once you cut the drive shaft you can't lengthen it again.
